“When I was a little girl, staying for weeks and sometimes months at the Sydney Children’s hospital, I wanted to be free from pain.

Now I am an adult, I want you to see “me”. I want you to see my journey to adult health care has had many turns and detours. I want you to talk to me like I have won a marathon. Because I have. I need your help to get me ready for living a life of courage and joy.

A koala represents stillness, rest and opportunities for self-care. Koalas hold deep significance in Australia. They survive by adapting to a harsh environment despite their soft calm appearance. This mirrors the inner strength people develop as they mature.

Koalas climb upwards on a tree, moving with intent. Koalas want to feel safe and see more of the world. Transition to adult care can be seen as reaching a place where the young person can recover, gain strength and see their future more clearly.” – Sophie

“Healthcare transition means building knowledge and understanding of life skills supporting my general wellbeing. Examples of my good health practice include eating healthy food, getting enough sleep and maintain my fitness. I chose to make this mascot design, because I imagined that good health practice in the form of healthy planet Earth giving birth to healthy young adult.” – Clayton
